Pembroke Mafia Football League: Some more classics up ahead

Boys and Girls, this week is what College Football in America is all about. What a show across the board. If you missed Saturday night’s Ole Miss-LSU matchup, you missed one for the ages.

This week promises to have some classics also.

We just got to get another work-week out of the way.

In the meantime the Pembroke Football Mafia League continues to secretly run the world from its top-secret lair behind the kitchen of the original “Aunt Booty’s Catfish and Waffles” on the Canoochee river in Groveland. There’s many imitators but we all know Aunt Booty on the Canoochee is the real one. She founded her restaurant empire after a successful moonshine-running career which I think is where she met Jeff. She’s a firm 45-36-58 and can catch catfish and flip waffles quicker than Bob can top pine logs, Doc can pull teeth and Mike C can sell excavators…. but I digress.

Our standings are currently Ben holding his lead at 31 winning picks, BJ, Mike C and Ted right behind him with 30, Mike B with 29, Gene and Jeff with 27, Noah with 26, Bob with 24, Carter and Me holding up the bottom with 23.

• Ole Miss seeks to keep a hot streak going against the University of Florida. Ted and Jeff pick the Swamp Things to tame the Rebs.

• Our West Coast matchup is Oregon at University of Southern California. BJ, Jeff, Gene and Noah pick Southern Cal.

• UGA has a first real challenger this week with Oklahoma but we all pick the Dawgs.

Sic ‘em.

• Georgia Tech, who took a thumping from Tennessee last week, plays Stanford, who took a thumping from Miami last week. Two good teams in what should be a good one.

In a fit of state pride, we all pick the Yellowjackets.

• Air Force plays Nevada. The last time these teams played Air Force squeaked by 22 19. Ted, Gene and Jeff pick Nevada.

• Oklahoma State goes to West Virginia in a Big 12 matchup. Both teams are 2-0 and these teams have split the last four games with OSU winning 2021 and 2023 and WV winning 2022 and 2024. BJ, Mike B., Me, Gene, Carter and Noah pick the Mountaineers.

• The Battle of the Orange UT’s is this week as Texas goes to Tennessee. This one ought to be on your watch list at high noon on ABC. Me and Noah think we’ll hear more ‘Rocky Top’ than ‘Eyes of Texas’.

• The Midwest matchup is Nebraska at Michigan State. Ted and Gene are cheering for the Big Green this week.

• Texas A&M goes to LSU who will be looking to put on a show after last Saturday’s loss. We all think they’ll get it.

• Houston comes charging into Statesboro to play Georgia Southern. GSU coach Clay Helton played for Houston and Houston coach Willie Fritz formerly coached GSU so this one’s got some stories. Me, Bob, Gene, Carter and Ted think GSU gets on a roll. The rest pick Houston. Should be a good one at 4:00 on ESPN U.
