The Creation period

Dr. Lawrence Butler, The Bridge Church, Pembroke

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:1-2).

So many have tried to explain how the world was made. Many seem to think there was some type of “big bang” explosion that occurred and resulted in our planet being formed. However, why can’t we just accept the fact there is a creator who set everything in order? The critical features that allow life to exist here on earth are too organized, too structured and simply too consistent to be an accident.

God did wondrous things on the six days of creation. Have you realized the last thing brought into existence was man? Why was this? “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else” (Isa.45:18).

God made this world for man to inhabit. Notice, He never put fish into the sea until there was food for them. He never put animals on land until there was food to sustain them. He never put man here until everything else was in place. Man was the last of the creation and everything he needed to survive and prosper was placed here first.

The Lord wanted us to enjoy His creation and His daily blessings.

Even after we ruined His creation with the curse of sin, He allowed us to salvage so much of the original beauty. I have seen the Smokey Mountains, the Rocky Mountains, the beauty of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

I have observed the Sequoias of California, the lighthouses of Maine, beaches of Florida. Cuisine experiences include lobster in Maine, buffalo in Vermont, and beans in Boston. The beauty of the water around Clarke-Hill Dam as well as the Mississippi River are beyond my words to express. Who can forget the beautiful mansions outside of New Orleans or the plantations of South Carolina? We live in an overwhelmingly, beautiful world, created by our Father who only gives good gifts. “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (Psalms 107:8,15,21,31).
