When I was growing up in my home there is one phrase that I remember my dad using habitually. If he was talking about going somewhere or doing something he always said, “Lord willing”. I never paid that much attention until years later when I realized what he said was the right thing to say and had a scriptural basis.

The place where it is found in the Bible is James, chapter 4 and verses 13-15. It reads like this, “Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money’. Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a midst that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’

The truth is we are not guaranteed another minute in this life, and we can’t see into our future to know how things will turn out.

One thing that we can do is to put our lives in God’s hands and be willing to submit to His will whichever way this takes us.
