Something worth thinking about

In the busy day-to-day life, it is easy to forget to think about spiritual things.

Many in the world today have been taught there is not a God (which is a lie). It makes being a Christian a great challenge to be surrounded by those who scoff at Christianity, living immoral lives.

That is why those who are Christ-followers need to remember to think about spiritual things, such as the value of one’s soul.

Jesus told of a shepherd that had a lost sheep and how he went to retrieve the lamb.

Then he said, “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that on of these little ones should perish” (Mat 18:14).

To God, every soul is important. Christians must also realize importance of the soul. It is worth more than anything else man has. It and it alone will live in eternity.

Life is uncertain. If one looks at the news, it is easily seen that this statement is true.

God put it like this: “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (James 4:14).

Everyone must die. It does not matter what great plans one might have for the future – death can come when it is least expected.

This illustration is old and has been used many times in many places, but it is still true.

There was a man who wore his overshoes when it rained, brushed his teeth twice a day, saw his doctor twice a year, watched his diet, exercised, golfed every week but only 18 holes, never smoked or drank and was prepared to live to be a hundred.

His funeral will be this week. Several doctors, two gyms, and several health food and exercise equipment companies survive him. He forgot God.

How true this is of so many who are more concerned with this life than they are of the one to come. Eternity is sure. Christians must never forget this truth. They need to think about spiritual things constantly.

God has blessed man with the time one has now to prepare for eternal life. One must take advantage of the time given to prepare for eternity. It is easy to get caught up in all the cares of this life – work, family, recreation, etc.

It takes a constant effort to keep fixed on what is important in life, not how much money can be made, not how great one can become.

The most important thing in life is being prepared to leave this life and to live with God in eternity. One must continually keep this ever before themselves.

The preparation that is necessary takes planning and work. When a person plans a vacation, they do not wait until the day to leave to plan the trip.

Preparing for eternity should take on the importance of the occasions when one prepares to take a journey here.

One should be excited to think of living in eternity.

The apostle Paul put it this way, “For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.” (Phil 1:23). Do not forget to think about this event.

Turn to God, study his word, and obey his word. Believe in Jesus as God’s Son, repent of sins, confess Jesus as God’s Son, be baptized for the remission of sins, then remain faithful to God.

This will help one have a better life. Think on these things.
