Recently I looked up and saw a sign which read “Safety Zone” on land controlled by the Department of Natural Resources.
Much of their land is open to hunting except for certain locations which are marked with these signs. Safety Zones are created primarily because these lands are close to residential areas which could make it unsafe if guns were fired or arrows shot.
When I saw this sign, it reminded me that as a Christian I am off limits to Satan doing what he wants with me, and my salvation is secure as long as I trust in Jesus Christ.
We find in the story of Job where Satan had to get permission on how far he was able to bring testing to him. Also, the writer in Psalms reminds us that we don’t have to live a life of fear understanding that others have their limits of what they can do to us.
He says in chapter 118, verse 6, “The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
Mankind can destroy my body and may bring persecution into my life but they have no control over my soul. Only God has that control.
Jesus addressed this in Matthew 10:28 when He said, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both body and soul in hell.”
Because of my healthy fear of God, I decided to obey what His Word teaches. That same Word tells me that an eternity in heaven becomes a reality through accepting forgiveness of my sins made possible through the sacrificial death of Jesus.
Now I don’t fear death or the devil because my life now is in God’s hands, and He alone can keep me secure. The great news is that everyone has an invitation into this safety zone.
