Letter to the editor: In response to Dick Yarbrough’s July 11 column:
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Sir I appreciated your column on veterans organizations trying to correct misinformation regurgitated over the decades about the war that wasn’t because as you know it was supposed to be a police action.

But it was war by those of us facing a ruthless enemy that was determined to be rid of us. When I got out of the army I worked with men who to this day don’t know that I was a veteran. I even had a man who worked for me and I socialized with for years and recently I returned to Oklahoma to visit and had opportunities to meet him again. Through his son, now grown, I was shown a shadow box display of his memorabilia. At this point I spoke of my time in Nam in ‘68 for the first time and believe it or not, we were there at the same time.

My point being a lot of us didn’t want to be connected to war run by politicians and with the bad press just didn’t discuss it. If we’d had a Patton or MacArthur the outcome would’ve been different. With the current state of mind in the regime of Washington and the general public in particular I don’t want my grandchildren or even my children involved in any political adventure perpetrated by ideology not much different from our enemies. We’ve got to reclaim our own country before any further decisions get mixed up in regional conflicts that don’t impact us. Thanks for your time sir and God bless.
