The Bryan County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Christopher McDonald as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 21, 2026.

According to a release, McDonald brings "extensive experience in business advocacy, community collaboration, nonprofit leadership and hospitality" to the role. He most recently served as Regional Area Director for the United Way of the Coastal Empire, where he led strategic initiatives in Bryan County and worked closely with local businesses, community partners and government leaders.

He also has a background in hospitality, including owning and operating a full-service restaurant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and supporting local businesses through community and organizational leadership.

“Chris stood out among dozens of candidates as the clear choice to lead our organization as business growth and development continue to accelerate in Bryan County,” said Buck Holly, Chair of the Bryan County Chamber of Commerce and CEO and Founder of C&H Family of Companies. “He brings a member-focused mindset, strong community relationships and the strategic vision needed to position the Chamber for the future.”

McDonald said his focus will be on strengthening the Chamber’s value to businesses throughout Bryan County while building strong partnerships across the region.

“The Bryan County Chamber plays a critical role in making our community a premier place to do business,” McDonald said. “I look forward to working with our members, municipalities, county government, local chambers and economic development partners to ensure Bryan County reaches its full potential. I also recognize the unique business climates of the north and south regions of the county and am committed to maintaining a strong Chamber presence throughout Bryan County.”

Chris Benson, City Administrator for the City of Pembroke, welcomed McDonald’s appointment, saying, “The relationship between the Bryan County Chamber of Commerce and our local governments is important to the continued growth and success of Bryan County. I look forward to working with Chris as he leads the Chamber.”

Ryan Purvis, CEO of the Development Authority of Bryan County, added, “Chris is a respected leader in our community, and his experience and network will bring tremendous value to our region. The partnership between the Development Authority and the Chamber has a longstanding and positive impact on our business community, and we look forward to seeing that partnership grow under Chris’s leadership.”

Chamber leaders also expressed appreciation to the Board of Directors and staff for their dedication and steady leadership throughout the CEO search and transition.

McDonald attended the University of South Florida, where he studied Communications. He will assist the United Way of the Coastal Empire with transitional activities as the organization identifies his successor.
