Much has been said about immigration and securing our borders, but the reasons for this have been muddled at best. To understand, look at the issue really fueling the campaign.
Roughly 20 years ago demographic experts noticed the U.S. population trending down for whites and at some point they would no longer be the majority. New estimates say this could happen as early as 2040 (Doomsday), scaring the daylights out of many. The fastest growing segment is the Hispanic community, through both immigration and higher birth rates (1.96) v. blacks (1.79), whites (1.70).
For example, in 1970 Florida was 78% white, today just over 50%. Georgia was 72% in 1990, today 50.5%. Nevada was 91.7 in 1970, now 51.2%. Texas is down to 37%.
Once you understand this, everything else falls in place.
Build the Wall: slow the flow of immigrants at our southern border. Pushes Doomsday back a few years.
Get white women to have more babies: If you can convince them to reproduce more often you can at least close the gap in birthrates.
Not terribly effective, but shows the target audience you are trying your best to push Doomsday back.
Send them back: Since “Build the Wall” doesn’t slow this down enough, removing brown-skinned people already here is a must. Doesn’t matter how long they’ve been here, what their legal status is, or what kind of work they are doing, just get them out of the count and make sure it’s well publicized.
Send some to prisons to be tortured or even killed: Use fear to help make potential immigrants reconsider coming to the USA. Trump even brags how well this has worked.
Set daily quotas: Steven Miller is targeting 3,000 per day, slightly over 1 million per year. This doesn’t move Doomsday back much either, but it adds to the hysteria and amplifies fear.
Lower the age kids can work to 14: Make up for the void created by removing Hispanics.
Add work requirements to health care: Same as above, even if it’s seniors in wheelchairs, get them out into the fields.
Other measures: Start adding capacity to old detention facilities and build new, even scarier ones and triple the ICE budget.
All of this to make racists feel better and produce ironclad votes. That’s all it’s ever been about.
