Hurricane season is once again upon us. It starts on June first and goes through November 30 each year. I have lived in the Savannah area for 22 years and have been asked to evacuate only 3 times and have seen limited damage. The truth of the matter is that there is always a chance that a major hurricane could come our way and do major damage. I have heard local weather folks say that it is not a matter of if but a matter of when.
We hope we never see major effects from a storm but since we have no way of knowing then we need to make preparations. I read a recent story where over 50% of people in hurricane prone areas make no preparations ahead of a potential hurricane. Affective preparations can help save some valuable personal property but more importantly it can save lives.
There is an area of life where it is even more important to make preparations and it deals with the time we meet our maker.
We are warned in Matthew 24:44 to be prepared for the second coming of Jesus because we do not know when that time will be. More importantly we need to be prepared to meet God because we do not know when our last breath will be breathed. Unlike hurricanes the odds of having to give accountability before God is 100%. We all are reminded in Hebrews 9:27 that we will have to face death and God’s judgement. The great news is that we can make appropriate preparations for a hurricane and more importantly, we can make appropriate preparations to meet God through the forgiveness offered us through His Son Jesus Christ. Another piece of good news is that we get to choose.
