Pembroke resident Douglas Covington, 38, died April 1 from injuries sustained from an automobile accident on Dean Forest Road in Savannah, according to a press release from Savannah Police.

The report also said the following: Covington was traveling south near Robert B. Miller Road at about 7 p.m. that day when a vehicle in the northbound lane veered into his, causing a head-on collision. Covington, his passenger and the driver of the other vehicle were all rushed to Memorial Hospital.

Douglas Covington died shortly after arriving at the hospital. His passenger, 44-year-old Kelly Bigness of Nokomis Fla., and the other driver, 59-year-old Archie Burson of Bloomingdale, both remained at Memorial at deadline.

The wreck prompted the closure of Dean Forest Road for three hours after the wreck. Metro traffic investigators have cited weather, speed, and inattentive driving as contributing factors. The investigation on the wreck is ongoing.
