Valentine's Day fire displaces Ellabell family
BCSO

An Ellabell family of four and their pet dog were displaced the afternoon of Feb. 14 after their Homestead Drive home was damaged by a fire that apparently started in the kitchen while they were cooking a pizza.

No one was injured and the family went to stay with relatives, authorities said. The Red Cross and Bryan County Family Connections were contacted to help the family.

According to a Bryan County Sheriff’s Office report, Bryan County Fire and Emergency Services firefighters and BCSO deputies were sent to the address “in reference to a fully engaged structure fire.”

Witnesses told deputies they “were cooking a pizza in the oven while watching television (and the) eldest daughter began to see smoke coming from the kitchen area. When the fire grew out of control (the mother) called 911 and got everyone out of the residence.”

It was unclear from the report what caused the fire.
