Super Soccer extends signup

Hendrix Park Super Soccer program extends the winter registration. This week is suppose to be the first week of Super Soccer’s Winter League at Hendrix Park however, with registration slightly lower than the Fall League turn out park officials have extended registration through Friday.

"We are only at 25 children signed up as of last Friday afternoon," said League Director Bryan Woods. "We need a minimum of 40 to play this winter session. The past six weeks are an extremely busy time of year so I have asked the coaches to call last season’s players to remind them that it's time and we are ready to go again."

With the extremely popular Fall Super Soccer Season’s successful completion county and park officials have moved forward with plans to build new soccer fields on the south side of the park.

County Recreation Director Pratt Lockwood signed the go ahead last month and the county started construction this past week. When completed there will be one full size regulation field for competitions and six youth fields. Ample parking right at the field area is planned along with lights.

"Thanks to everyone that helped Super Soccer get its start, we will be placing every child’s name that started this season in a plaque at the field. That will be over 65 kids on the plaque. It is something to be really proud of and excited about. Soccer in the northern part of Bryan County was long overdue," said Woods.

To register for Winter League Super Soccer, please call the Hendrix Park Recreation Office at 858-4640. The registration fees are $50 per child for new players and $25 per child for returning players.

All interested children ages 4-9 are encouraged to sign up. The league plays all games at Hendrix Park and all teams play at the same time, no travel is required.
