The following were taken from reports on file at the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department.

Identity theft
April 18 – A Richmond Hill man reported he recently learned someone used his Social Security number to file a tax return in 2010. He wanted a report done.

April 3 – A Richmond Hill man told a BCSO deputy he filed his taxes online and got an email from the IRS saying a tax return had already been filed using his Social Security number. He needed a report.

Theft by taking
April 16 – A Pembroke man reported he was told by Pembroke Police Chief Mark Crowe that an Ellabell man had some metal guard rails that may belong the victim. The man checked the area where he kept his guard rails and found that 11 25-feet long sections worth approximately $5,5000 was missing. A BCSO investigator found the guard rail in Evans County and the suspect was arrested.

April 16 – An Ellabell man told deputies someone stole a number of his belongings from his pickup. Among the items taken was the man’s work cell phone, which he said was being used by the offender to text the victim’s girlfriend. Deputies are investigating.

April 2 – A Richmond Hill man reported someone stole his boat motor by breaking it off the mount. The man said he’d been gone from home for a few days and came back to find the mount there but the motor gone. He gave a deputy the name of two people he believes may have taken the motor to sell as scrap.

April 13 – An Ellabell man reported someone stole the right headlight off his pickup. “(The victim) advised his truck was always locked and armed by an alarm. He is not sure how someone got his headlight because the thief had to get under the hood to remove the light,” the report said.
