Charges have been filed against the Richmond Hill woman who caused the fatal head-on collision in that killed Bryan County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Robert “Bobby” Crapse.

Patricia Collins, 23, was indicted Wednesday on vehicular homicide charges for driving under the influence, rendering her “less safe” to drive on the night of the accident, according to the Chatham County District Attorney’s office.

Collins was driving south in the northbound lane of I-95 just after 2 a.m. June 15 when she collided head-on with a K-9 unit cruiser driven by Crapse, who later died from injuries sustained in the accident. Collins was taken to Memorial University Medical Center, where she was hospitalized for about a month.

A Georgia State Patrol toxicology report found in July that Collins had a blood alcohol content of 0.139 on the night of the crash. It is illegal in Georgia to drive with a BAC above 0.08.

Crapse, 32, who had been with the BCSD since 1999, was assigned to the K-9 unit and was on duty when the accident occurred. His K-9 partner, Seppe, suffered minor injuries from the accident and has since been retired to live with the Crapse family.

Crapse is survived by his wife and three young children of Ellabell.
