Lotus of Love Cancer Care, Inc. hosted "Hope In Motion", their second-annual dance fundraiser, at the Wetlands Center this past Friday, June 5.

The event had a Hawaiian theme as many in the area came out to support a worthy cause and to have a fun time. "Hope in Motion" featured music, food and games, such as a limbo competition and raffles.

Dr. Johnnie Quiller, Founder and CEO of Lotus of Love, Inc., hoped that those who attended did enjoy themselves but she also remained steadfast to the objective of their event.

"We hope to raise enough money so we can continue our mission," Dr. Quiller said. "We want to provide practical items to those who are cancer survivors and we want to help them by preparing meals, cleaning homes and going grocery shopping."

Lotus of Love has already sent out 25 care packages as far as New York and Texas. Every month the organization does a cancer support group at Brown's Pro Shop on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The meetings bring in speakers and educators and individuals who have been through the struggle of cancer and those currently going through cancer.

Savannah Kelly, an associate of Dr. Quiller, spoke about the different aspects of what cancer does to not only the person going through it but also their families and friends as well.

"I have worked on the technology side of cancer and I saw how frequently diagnosed cancer is," Kelly said. "It's one of the most isolating things a person can go through."

Kelly saw the need from her perspective as well as Dr. Quiller sharing her own battle with breast cancer and was encouraged to join the cause. Kelly believes in Dr. Quiller's vision and wants to make sure people are heard and understood and tell their various stories.

The Lotus of Love Committee Members included the following:

Dr. Johnnie Quiller, CEO and Founder; Donna Thompson, Counselor; Marcia Lawrence, Administrative Support; Dana Taylor, Finance Secretary; Dr. Hubert Quiller, Spiritual Advisor; Roger Taylor, Technology; and Keysia Calmese, Human Resources.

Sponsors for the event included The Happy Baker, Geechee Girl Kitchen, DJ Wiggles, Mary Billingslea of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Re Lyks Party Rental, Joann Wilson, Dana Taylor and Savannah Kelly.
