The Pembroke Police Department has been doing National Night Out for years.

Bryan County Family Connection has long helped support local kids who need some extra help getting ready for the school year.

Now two are combining forces for National Night Out and Back to School Bash 2018.

Set to run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31 at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center, the event will include a wide range of services, from donated haircuts to vaccinations from Curtis V. Cooper Health Center’s Mobile Health Clinic, according to Bryan County Family Connections Coordinator Wendy Sims, who said a number of agencies and businesses have chipped in to make the event work.

Sims, along with  Pembroke City Administrator Alex Floyd said it’s about doing something positive.

“National Night Out is an opportunity for our community to see the positive roles of law enforcement and first responders in action,” Floyd said. “This year’s combination with a Bryan County Family Connections Back to School Bash is just one more way the city and county try and respond to the needs of our own.”

“Our goal is for every child in Pembroke to not only get some free clothes and school supplies but to shake the hand of a police officer or a firefighter and know that they have their back,” Floyd added.
