Stewart getting drone aircraft

The Army is planning to station Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft systems at Fort Stewart, according to Fort Stewart Public Affairs Officer Kevin Larson. How soon the unmanned aircraft systems will be stationed here and how many systems the installation will receive has not yet been determined, Larson said.
“Once at Fort Stewart, the Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft systems will fall under the command and control of the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division,” he said. “Currently, unmanned aircraft systems are flown and operated in Fort Stewart’s airspace. Since the Gray Eagle is an unmanned aircraft that operates like a manned aircraft, there are no concerns with it sharing airspace with other aircraft. The Gray Eagle is always under the control of a human operator.”
Larson described the Gray Eagles as “deployable units” that offer “incredible intelligence and combat capabilities.” He said more details on the Gray Eagles’ capabilities will be made available when the stationing plan is finalized, to include what installation is losing the aircraft systems to Fort Stewart.
“When the plan is final, we’ll provide an update and offer (media) interviews with Gray Eagle subject matter experts,” Larson said.
