Pembroke adopts freeport tax exemption

Pembroke City Council adopted a freeport tax exemption resolution during the group’s meeting Monday, paving the way for the Bryan County election superintendent to conduct a referendum on whether the city should be to exempt from ad valorem taxation of certain personal property.

The referendum, if passed, will bring Pembroke in line with the freeport exemptions already approved for Bryan County.

In other business, city council approved a bucket brigade Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in downtown Pembroke.

This is the annual fundraiser for the Bryan County High School Band Boosters.

The American Legion announced a special service on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pembroke to honor Vietnam veterans.

Georgia Department of Veteran Services Commissioner Mike Roby will officiate.
