A Georgia Department of Transportation project is bringing some much-needed safety improvements to a busy intersection in North Bryan County.
At the intersection of Highways 80 and 280 in Blitchton, the DOT is in the process of installing a traffic light and turn lanes. The project began in August and should be completed by this summer, according to Jill Nagel, Georgia Department of Transportation communications director.
Eldora Road and Highway 280 will be slightly realigned to meet requirements for the posted speed through the intersection, Nagel said. All roads in the intersection will also be widened to accommodate center turn lanes, she added.
According to Nagel, traffic studies led to the improvements.
"This is an intersection improvement safety project," Nagel said. "Traffic studies have been done on the intersection and it was determined that the intersection warranted safety improvements."
