A county employee drowned Tuesday while trying to help get a dog from a pond near the South Bryan Administration Building, according to Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith.

The man has been identified as Warren Hall, 36, of Pembroke. His body was recovered by divers shortly after 1 p.m. A bystander said the incident occurred around 11 a.m.

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Bryan County Emergency Services and Bryan County Coroner were among the agencies to respond. First responders held up blankets to shield the view of onlookers as the man’s body was loaded into the county coroner’s van.

Hall was trimming weeds along a running path which circles the pond when he stopped to help people whose dog had run into the water.
