Four qualify for vacant Richmond Hill council seat on first day of qualifying

Four men qualified Monday to run in a March 19 special election for the Richmond Hill city council seat left vacant by the Dec. 19 death of Johnny Murphy, according to city clerk Dawnne Greene.

Among them is Murphy’s older brother, Ronald Murphy, a financial advisor; Wayne Jackson, a longtime Richmond Hill developer and businessman; Rick Fitzer, a developer and real estate agent; and John Ring, the husband of Democratic congressional candidate Lisa Ring.

Johnny Murphy, who served as mayor pro tem, was a real estate developer and founder of the magazine, Reflections.

Qualifying continues from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at City Hall. There is a $150 qualifying fee.
