Georgia’s two upcoming Senate runoff elections, which could determine partisan control of the U.S. Senate, are set for Jan. 5. Incumbent Republican Kelly Loeffler faces Democrat challenger Raphael Warnock, and incumbent Republican David Perdue is in a heated contest with Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Voters who are not yet registered have until Dec. 7 to do so. Georgians who will turn 18 before Jan. 5 are eligible to register to vote in the runoff. In Georgia, voters are required to be 17½ years old to register. Voters can register online through the secretary of state’s portal at registertovote.sos.ga.gov.

Early voting for the runoffs starts Dec. 14 and runs until Dec. 31. Early voting in Bryan County will be conducted at the Richmond Hill Recreation Department, 508 Timber Trail Road, and in Pembroke at the Bryan County Commissioners' Meeting Room, 151 South College St. The polling places will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. every weekday except for Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Voting by absentee ballot is also an option for the runoff election. The secretary of state’s office’s new online absentee ballot request portal, ballotrequest.sos.ga.gov is up and running and voters can now request ballots for the runoffs. Disabled, elderly, military, and overseas voters will receive an absentee ballot automatically if they received one for the Nov. 3 election.

Georgia residents voting absentee have the option to drop off their ballots in an absentee ballot drop box or mail them back. In Bryan County, ballot drop boxes are located in Richmond Hill at the Bryan County Administrative Building, 66 Captain Matthew Freeman Drive, and in Pembroke at the County Courthouse, 151 S. College Street. Completed ballots must be received by 7 p.m. Jan. 5 to be counted.

Voters can check their registration status, download a sample ballot, and find their polling places by checking mvp.sos.ga.gov.
