Daddy-daughter dance set for Feb. 9
Bryan County Family Connection

Wendy Sims has done this sweetheart dance thing before. Sims, director of Bryan County Family Connection, said she was asked some years back to put on a father-daughter dance in North Bryan after one was cancelled. “Somebody called me and asked if I’d do it,” she said. “We had 300 people there, it was great. It did really well.”

And then, nobody held another one.

Fast forward to now, and Sims is hosting Bryan County Family Connection’s 1st Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hendrix Park Gym.

There will be a DJ, a professional photographer and food, and it’s all for a good cause since the event is a fundraiser for the Plentiful Pantry Community Food Bank.

Tickets are $30 per daddy and daughter, and $10 for each additional daughter. There’s no age limit, either.

Based on reaction to news of the dance, she expects another crowd, too.

“It’s just huge, people love this,” Sims said. “They just do.”

And if this goes well, there could be a similar dance in the future geared toward mothers and sons, Sims said.

Tickets can be ordered through the Bryan County Family Connections Facebook page or at the BCFC office. Call 912-653-3824 for more information. The deadline is Friday.

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
