SAVANNAH — SouthCoast Health recently announced the addition of three new physicians: Drs. Ryann E. Cowart, Christa L. Jillard and Margaret B. McCormack.

Jillard is a general surgeon who will practice out of SouthCoast Health’s Hodgson Memorial Drive office in Savannah, Liberty Medical Center office in Hinesville and Westbury Park office in Bluffton, South Carolina. Cowart will practice family medicine out of SouthCoast Health’s Eisenhower Drive office in Savannah. McCormack, a doctor of osteopathic medicine specializing in internal medicine, will be the hospital-based primary-care physician whose exclusive role will be to manage SouthCoast Health patients admitted to Candler Hospital in Savannah.

“These three physicians represent tremendous assets to our practice,” SouthCoast Health Administrator John Marrero said. “Our goal is to offer the best care possible in as many locations as we can and these three well credentialed individuals, with their range of specialties, will enable us to do that on a larger scale.”

Jillard performed a fellowship in endocrine surgery and will be SouthCoast Health’s third surgeon in that specialty, joining Dr. E. Stephen Yeager and Dr. Jeffrey S. Mandel, both of whom are experienced in thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreatic disorders. In addition to endocrine surgery, Jillard’s other areas of focus will be breast surgery and women’s health.

A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, she completed her residency in general surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, and is affiliated at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and Memorial University Medical Center.

Cowart will help boost SouthCoast Health’s primary-care services in family medicine. She was born and raised in Savannah before her family relocated to western North Carolina, where she attended high school.

A graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., she completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, with areas of focus in women’s health and global health. She is a member in the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association and is affiliated with St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital and Memorial Health University Medical Center.

As a hospital-based physician, McCormack will devote her professional time to the care of hospitalized patients and will not see patients outside of the hospital. She will have access to the patient’s complete medical history and will work hand-in-hand with the patients’ primary-care physician to coordinate treatment and care.

A graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah where she was chief resident.
