Trip to Jax zoo for military families

Register by Nov. 14 for a Leisure Travel trip to the Jacksonville Zoo at 9 a.m. Nov. 17. Come face to face with wild animals of South America, South Africa, Australia and even Florida while visiting the park and gardens. The cost, including admission, is $23 for adults, $17 for children ages 3-12 and $9 for ages 2 and under.

50-bird skeet shoot

Registration is open until Nov. 15 for a 50-bird skeet shoot at 9 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Hunter Skeet and Trap Range.

Participants shoot two rounds of skeet and/or two of trap. Each round is scored, and a combined score results in shooter’s placement. There will be great prizes. The cost is $25 per person for skeet or trap or $40 for both. For more information, call 315-9554.

 

Basketball, cheerleading

Registration is under way to play youth basketball or be a cheerleader.  Sign-up for coed basketball for ages 5-17 and cheerleading for ages 5-13 ends Nov. 16. Team practices begin Nov. 26. Games are played on Hunter, Habersham YMCA and the Jewish Educational Alliance.

Enroll at Parent Central Services, 315-5425. The cost is $30 per child.

Be Like Mike Nite

Can you move like the King? Dress the part, put on wheels and show your moves from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 17 at Corkan Family Fun Center. The $5 per person cost includes skate rental.  

 

Hunter Family Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk

Everyone’s invited to the Family Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk on Hunter starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 17. Refreshments and a drawing for gift certificates good for turkeys will follow the race.

There’s no charge, and runners can register starting at 9:30 a.m. that day. The run/walk will cover distances of 5K or 1.5 miles and will begin at Perimeter Road and Stephen Douglas Street.

Company-level basketball

Registration continues until Nov. 21 for the Company-Level Basketball League at Fort Stewart. There is no charge to play.

The league gives soldiers a chance to prove who has the best team in the 3rd ID. Companies interested need to submit a letter of intent to play to the Sports Office in the Bennett Sports Complex.

Games will be played at Newman Fitness Center beginning Dec. 3.

Dinner and bowling

Bring the family to Stewart Lanes for dinner and bowling at a special price from 4-8 p.m. Nov. 25. The cost is $30 per family of five. Call 767-4273.

 

Golf to honor 3rd ID

Soldiers and retirees are invited to play 18 holes at Hunter Golf Club and pay just 93 cents per hole in celebration of Marne Division’s 93rd Birthday.

The special is available after 11 a.m. Nov. 17 and 18, and all day Nov. 19. Golfers must play 18 holes with golf car. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Thanksgiving hours at Corkan

All Corkan Family Recreation facilities will be closed Nov. 22 for Thanksgiving.

Facilities will operate from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 23-25. There will be no Toddler Time, Bowlopolis “8 for 8” bowling league or private parties.

Thanksgiving bowling specials

Marne Lanes will offer bowling specials the day before Thanksgiving and the day after. On Nov. 21, rent a lane for $25 for two hours of unlimited bowling for up to six people. On Nov. 23, kids bowl for $1 per game from 3-8 p.m. and unlimited bowling for $12 per person from 8-midnight.

Turkey egg hunt

Not all the turkeys are gobbled up on Thanksgiving. Those that escape will leave some eggs in Adventure Golf.

Children ages 0-5 years are invited to find the eggs in the annual Turkey Egg Hunt, starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 26. There’s no charge. The hunt ends when all eggs have been found.
