Racquetball tournament next week
Weekly FMWR briefing for July 23-29

Register by Monday for the Racquetball Tournament scheduled Aug. 2-4 at Newman Fitness Center.

The tournament is double elimination format, with men’s and women’s singles open A, B and C divisions. The first game will start at 6 p.m.

There will be one event per person and the first 15 points win. Tie-breakers are played until the first person reaches 11 points. First and second place medals will be awarded.

Hunter youth soccer

Registration closes July 31 for youth fall soccer at Hunter Army Airfield and the YMCA. Boys and girls ages 5-12 are eligible. Teams will be co-ed. Some games will be on Saturdays.

There is a $20 charge. All players must wear shin guards while practicing and during games. Practice begins the third week of August.

Back-to-school dolphin watch

Start the new school year off with a splash on a CYSS and Youth Sponsorship dolphin watching trip Aug. 4. Registration ends Aug. 2.

The trip is open to Stewart/Hunter CYSS-registered youth in grades 5-12. Parents can register online or at the PCS offices on Stewart and HAAF. Participants will depart Fort Stewart at 9:30 a.m. and Hunter at 10:30 a.m.

There's no fee, but there is a $5 no-show or late cancellation fee after Aug. 2.

Youth football, cheerleading, soccer

Registration for youth tackle football/cheerleading and fall soccer runs through Aug. 3. 

Registration is open to Fort Stewart CYSS members: football 7-12 (as of Aug.1); cheerleading 6-13 (Dec. 31); and soccer 4-13 (Aug.1).

Register at Fort Stewart Parent Central Services on Gulick Avenue. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 767-2312 Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m.-noon. Walk-ins are welcome on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Participants also may register online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/stewartcyms.html

Children who register for sports programs must have a current physical on file with CYSS.

Childcare space available

Childcare service is available on Fort Stewart and Hunter. As of July 23, spaces at Stewart are seven infant, 47 pre-toddlers, 27 toddlers, 29 pre-school and 55 school-age. Also, the new Youth Center on Mindoro Loop, is ready for youth to come and visit.

On Hunter, spaces available are 29 pre-toddlers, 32 pre-school, 11 pre-K and 4 school-age. The New Hunter Youth Activity Center is looking for new members.

Company level flag football

Registration is under way for Company Level Flag Football League scheduled for Aug. 27-Nov. 15 at Bennett Sports Complex.

It'll prove who has the best team and company in the Third Infantry Division. There’s no charge to compete.

Companies interested in playing need to submit a memo to the Sports Office in the Bennett Sports Complex or call 767-8238. Registration closes Aug. 15.

 

Rocky's Zone Hours Change

Rocky’s Zone has new hours. It is open from noon-10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and 4-10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. It is closed on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Tickets for 2012 home games of the Jacksonville Jaguars are on sale at Leisure Travel Services at Stewart inside AAFES PX Furniture Mall and on Hunter in building 1286,

Games are against New York Giants on Aug. 10, Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 30, Houston Texans on Sept. 16, Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 30, Chicago Bears on Oct. 7, Detroit Lions on Nov. 4, Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8, Tennessee Titans on Nov. 25, New York Jets on Dec. 9 and New England Patriots on Dec. 23.

Army Entertainment is seeking technicians and performers for the U.S. Army Soldier Show, Army Concert Tour and other entertainment programs.

Introduction to crossfit

If you’ve heard the buzz crossfit, but can’t decide whether it is for you, here’s a chance to check it out.

Newman Fitness Center is offering introduction to crossfit sessions from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Aug. 7. You’ll learn the movements and routines of this high-intensity training.

The sessions are free, but will be limited to five persons per session.

Powerlifting and bench press competition

Newman Fitness Center will hold “The Rock” Powerlifting and Bench Press Competition for men and women Aug. 25. Weigh-in begins at 8 a.m. and the competition at 10 a.m.

Contestants will be placed into one of 12 weight classes, and must complete a successful attempt in all three lifts (bench press, squat and dead lift) to qualify for an award. Each competitor will get three lifts per event. Thetop three lifts will be combined for a total to determine placing.

Awards will be presented to the top lifters using the Schwartz-Malone formula.

The cost is $10 if you register by Aug. 20, and $15 later. For more details or to register, visit the center or call 767-9336.
