The second annual Salute to Oktoberfest will be Saturday at Club Stewart, despite the government shutdown.
There is no admission charge. Tickets are needed to participate in the various amusements and are $1 each, $20 for a wristband and $60 per family-for-four wristbands.
The area outside Club Stewart will have inflatables, games and amusements, and various craft and food vendors. German beer and food will be available for purchase.
Events begin with a 5K Mug and Volksmarch at 2 p.m. Registration is at 1 p.m., and awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m.
The Stewart/Hunter Operation Rising Star finals will begin at 4 p.m., when the finalists take the stage. The top three singers will take home prizes ranging from $100 to $500. Audience vote at the finals will count for half of the winner’s score.
While the finalists battle it out onstage, a Hunter/Stewart unit or FRG will take the final step toward a “Spirit Award” of $100 to $300. The award will be given to the unit or FRG deemed to have been the best supportive presence at all three competitions, regardless of contestant participation.
Darry & the Veil of Lancaster, Pa., will provide live music.
Oktoberfest sponsors are United Rentals, Navy Federal Credit Union, USA Discounters and Freedom Furniture & Electronics.
Vehicles without decals should enter Fort Stewart at the Main Gate via the non-decal (traffic lane to the right) on Gen. Screven Way. Drivers must be able to present a current driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. Passengers must have photo identification.
