DoDEA schools reopen Aug. 1, Liberty County Schools reopen Aug. 7 and Chatham County students go back to class Aug.12.

So hours at swimming pools on Fort Stewart and Hunter are being changed in the next couple weeks.

Bryan Village outdoor pool will close for the season on Aug. 5. Effective Aug. 7, Corkan outdoor pool will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only until the day after Labor Day, Sept. 2, when the pool will close for the season. the Hunter Outdoor pool changes Aug. 12, after  which it will be open Saturdays and Sundays only from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until it closes for the season the day after Labor Day. For more information, call 315-5786.

 

Punt, Pass & Kick

Registration is under way for the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Youth Sports Football Complex on Fort Stewart.

Boys and girls, ages 6-15, will participate in all three events for a total score and a chance to advance to the sectional competition.

Participants may register online at http://www.nflppk.com/competitions/register/index or at Youth Sports and Fitness Center. A birth certificate must be provided.

Only gym shoes can be worn for competition.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. No pistols or shotguns are permitted. Targets will be at 100 to 1,000 meters.

Library Patron Picks

What are you reading? George P. Hays Library wants to know.

The library will start collecting book reviews Aug. 1 for a “Patron Picks” display in the library. Patron picks are short reviews written by patrons.

Just fill out your review and hand it to a staffer. Anyone is welcome to write a review.

Youth football, cheerleading, soccer

Register now for Youth Sports’ football, soccer and cheerleading program.

Football (ages 7-12) and cheerleading (ages 6-13) registration continues until Aug. 9 and is $30 per child.

Soccer (ages 4-13) registration continues until Aug. 16 and is $30 per child.

Practices begin in August. Play begins in September.

Saturday Bingo

Try your luck at Super Saturday Bingo on Aug. 3 at Stewart Bingo (adjacent to Club Stewart). Warm-ups begin at 5 p.m. and the games at 7.

There will be many opportunities to win big, with games worth $400-$500, single coverall $750 and double coverall $1,500. More than $10,000 can be won.

8 for 8 Bowling

Eight for Eight Bowling League is open for kids ages 4-16 on Saturdays, starting Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. and continuing until Sept. 28 at Stewart Lanes.

Children bowl two games per week, and at end of the program receive a free bowling ball. The cost is $8 per week for 8 weeks and covers shoe rental. Register by Aug. 3.

Kids Bowling Day

Celebrate National Kids Day with Stewart Bowling Center from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Aug. 4. Youth (ages 18 and under) get one free game when accompanied by an adult. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Ten-Miler qualifier

Represent the 3rd ID in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 20 by being one of the top three men and women finishers in a qualifier race on Donovan Field, Fort Stewart.

Only active duty may qualify, but family members are welcome to participate.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Aug. 17. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. at the field or call the Sports Office, 767-8238, to sign up in advance.
