Celebrate your favorite superhero in September at George P. Hays Library. There’s no charge.

Each week, get a mission, which you have a week to complete. Complete all four missions to join the Library Justice League.

This week’s challenge is Decorate Mask and Cape; Week Two is Master the Maze: Week Three is Strike Out Villain; and Week Four (Sept. 22-27) is Rescue Mission Lava Pit.

Dress as your favorite superhero for the finale from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 27 and complete your most challenging mission: to conquer the obstacle course and save the day.

New Orleans cuisine

Bistro Night at Thunder Run in Club Stewart, a monthly exploration of themed cuisine, serves up New Orleans Friday from 5-8 p.m. Start the evening with a 20-plus item salad bar, then the chef's selection of appetizers, an entrée and a dessert. Soft beverages are included and bar service is available.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians, and civilian guests can sight-in large caliber weapons from 9 a.m.-2 p.m Sept. 6. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo, off Highway 119.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. Targets are at 100 to 1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass and Permit Office or onsite.

CG's golf scramble

You can play in Maj. Gen. Mike Murray’s four-person scramble Sept. 12 at Hunter Golf Course. The four-person scramble begins at 1 p.m.

The $35 per person cost includes tournament and cart fees, driving range, food, beverages and prizes. Players are asked to register by Sept. 10.

‘Despicable Me 2’

"Despicable Me 2" (PG) is the next film in the summer outdoor movies series at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

The free show starts at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. For more information, call 767-4316.

 

Family Adventure Quest

Families are invited to a weekend of geo caching, archery, canoe/kayaking, camping, cooking s’mores and more at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Registration for the Sept. 12-13 even costs $30 per family and $25 for individuals. The fun begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 12 and continues until 3 p.m. the following day. An movie will be shown on Friday night.

Characters on Hunter  

Children will have an opportunity to meet and talk to their favorite characters and have their photographs taken with them at the Character Meet and Greet 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 20 at Tominac Fitness Center. The cost is $1 per person. For more information, call 315-9554.

 

Bend-the-Bar

Registration is under way for the Stewart/Hunter Bend-the-Bar Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge on Sept. 20.

The competition is open to men and women in 12 weight classes. Participants must be at least 16.

Competition will follow United States Power-lifting Federation rules. Winners will be determined by weight classes. Participant will get three attempts to lift their maximum weight. Winners must have a successful lift in each event.

Weigh-ins will be from 8-9:30 a.m. The competition begins at 10 a.m.

T-shirts will be given to participants and prizes will be awarded in all weight classes.

Entry fee is $15 per person until Sept. 15 and $20 later.

Rocky Cup

Join fellow Stewart/Hunter golfers vs. Sterling Links Golf Club (off Highway 144 East in Richmond Hill) in Quarterly Rocky Cup format matches between both course players at 8 a.m. Sept. 20.  

Two-person teams paired with a full field of 20, representing both courses.

The $30 per person cost includes tournament fee, golf carts, driving range and light lunch.

Return match will be Dec. 13 at Hunter Golf Course and a follow-on March 21 at Taylors Creek.

 

Post-wide garage sale

Got stuff you’re ready to part with?

The Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Yard Sale, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 4, is an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, and make a few dollars.

Register at Fort Stewart Sports Office or Tominac Fitness Center at Hunter to have your sale noted on a map. There is no charge.

Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, can shop.

Halloween horrors

Share the scare with Leisure Travel and Universal Orlando Oct. 10-12.

You'll see and interact with cannibals, creepy clowns, evil dolls, huge scare zones and more. Not into the scary stuff? Then Universal Orlando before dark is fun for everyone.

Cost of trip is $325 for 1-4 people per room. The price includes transportation and the stay at Best Western Orlando Gateway, with vouchers for breakfast each morning. Patrons are asked to register by Oct. 1.

Rock Body Building

Registration is under way for The Rock Body Building and Figure Contest Nov. 1 at Woodruff Theater on Fort Stewart.

Weigh-in will be at 8 a.m., prejudging at10 and the finals at 6:30 p.m.

The cost to register until Oct. 17 is $25 and then $35 until Nov. 1. There is an additional crossover fee of $15. Sign up at Newman Fitness Center.

Awards will be presented for first, second and third place in the seven divisions.

Crossfit challenge

Registration continues for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Caro Fitness Center.

The cost is $30 per person until Oct. 1. The fee from Oct. 2-22 is $35 per person. Register online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/Stewartrectrac.html. Sign-up closes Oct. 22.

Contestants in eight divisions must complete three high-intensity workouts.

Soldiers, family members and Army civilians can compete.
