Grays Reef management plan meeting set

A public meeting concerning Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary management plan is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Richmond Hill Public Library, 9607 Ford Ave.

A sanctuary management plan is a site-specific planning and management document that describes the goals, objectives and management activities for a sanctuary. Management plans generally outline regulations, describe boundaries, identify staffing and budget needs and set priorities and performance measures.

Each sanctuary site is required by law to periodically review its plan to re-evaluate site-specific goals and objectives and to develop management strategies and activities to ensure sanctuaries continue to best protect their natural and cultural resources. This allows each site to assess current issues, include new and relevant scientific information and incorporate advances in marine resource management.

The public is encouraged to participate and comment at several points during the process.

Comments also can be emailed to graysreef@noaa.gov. Please include “Scoping” in the subject line.
