Fall sports taking shape on Stewart, Hunter

Taylors Creek Golf Course now offers foot golf in addition to the standard golf. As an introduction, the course is offering free rounds of foot golf from 3-7:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Find some soccer enthusiasts and come out to try it. Indoor or turf shoes permitted, but not cleats. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Monday Golf Blitz

Enjoy a discounted round of golf on Mondays from 4:30-7 p.m. at Taylors Creek Golf Course. The cost is just $23 per player and includes golf cart, greens fee, range balls and prizes. Offer good all mont. For more information, call 767-2370.

 

Golf tournament

Enter the company-level, intramural tournament at Taylors Creek Golf Course and prove who has best golf team in the 3rd ID. The tournament will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 11. Interested companies need to submit a memo to their sports office by Friday. The cost of $25 per person (4-member team) includes greens fees and golf cart. For more information, call 767-8238.

 

Newman closed

Newman Fitness Center will be closed Aug.12 and 13 for maintenance. Patrons are encouraged to use Johnson, Caro or Jordan fitness centers during the closure. Newman will re-open on Aug. 14.

 

Horses 101

Register by Aug. 12 for a Leisure Travel Horseback Riding 101 trip to Norwood Stables at Richmond Hill from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 12. Get an overview of riding and horsemanship, and ride an obstacle course on this visit a ranch. The $40 per person cost includes transportation, lessons, riding and lunch. GC’s Foot Golf Scramble

Hunter Garrison Commander LTC Michael T. Squires will host a Foot Golf Scramble that starts at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 at Hunter Golf Course. Cost of $20 per player includes greens fee, cart, prizes and beverages following the event. Cost is $15 for those who do not wish to use a cart. Participants are asked to register by Aug. 13. The Lounge at Club Stewart

Beginning Friday, Aug. 4,  and continuing Aug. 21 and 28, enjoy The Lounge in the Warriors Lounge at Club Stewart from 5-7 p.m. The Lounge is a place to play pool, darts and a giant Jenga game to whet your thirst for entertainment. Long range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can site in large-caliber weapons from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 15 at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo. Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. No pistols or shotguns. Targets at 100-500 meters (paper) and 750-1,000 meters (steel). Cost is $15 per two-hour block/person. Other scheduled long-range shooting dates are Sept. 12 and Oct. 17. Register by Aug. 21 for Company-Level Flag Football League at Stewart and Hunter. Games begin Sept. 8 and are at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays at Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart and Squires Sports Complex on Hunter. There is no charge. Plantation tour

Take a self-guided tour of Middleton Place, a restored rice plantation on the Ashely River at Charleston on this Leisure Travel trip Aug. 22. Register by Aug. 14. Bodybuilding contest

“The Rock” Bodybuilding, Physique and Figure Contest will be Aug. 29 at Woodruff Theater, with weigh-in 8-9 a.m., pre-judging at 10 and the finals at 6:30 p.m.

Event is open to military ID cardholders (ages 17 and older) and civilians. Entry fees are $25 until Aug. 10, $35 Aug. 11-29, plus $15 for crossovers.

Each contestant will be judged on muscularity, symmetry and posing. First to third-place awards and trophies to be awarded.

There will be eight divisions.

Free bodybuilding seminars at Newman begin at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 and 22. Topics will include posing and presentation walk, suit and shoe selection and overall presentation.

Fees for spectators are $5 during pre-judging and $10 for finals. No charge for ages 13 and under. For more information, call 767-3031.
