Spring Carnival, with for young and old alike, will be at Fort Stewart’s Walker Field April 14-17. The public is welcome.

The Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield carnival, originally scheduled for this weekend, will feature rides, games and traditional concessions, as well as a beer garden. Ticket prices start at $1 each.

Civilians should enter Fort Stewart at Gate 1 on General Screven Way. Pets, coolers, outside food and glass bottles are prohibited.

Month of the Military Child

Ceremonies marking the start of the Month of the Military Child will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Child Development Center 475 on Fort Stewart and the School Age Center on Hunter. The theme is “Their Journeys and Adventures.” The community is welcome. Children will perform skits and songs. There will be brief talks and refreshments.

 

April Fools Golf

Everyone’s welcome to play Saturday in the April Fools Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Four-person format starts at 9 a.m. The $35 per person entry fee includes green fees, cart, range balls and prizes. For more information, call 912-767-2370.

 

Get Golf Ready

PGA Professional Tommie McArthur introduces beginners to the basic mechanics, rules and facts about golf during a two-hour Adult Get Golf Ready program at 10 a.m. Saturday on Hunter Golf Course. The cost is $40 per person. For more information, call 912-315-9115.

 

Garden plots

A limited number of free, 20-by-20 foot garden plots, near the Bits and Bridle Equestrian Club stables on Highway 144, Fort Stewart, are available on a first-come basis. Sign up at Holbrook Equipment Rental Facility. For information, call 912-435-8205. Tillers available for rent, but gardeners must supply their own tools and hoses. Balfour Beatty Communities offers family housing residents some gardening equipment free through its Self-Help program. For information, contact your housing manager.

 

All-Army 10 Miler

Soldiers are invited to compete in All-Army 10 Miler qualifier races at Donovan Field Track on Stewart. First qualifier is at 6 a.m. Saturday. Second is at 6 a.m. May 7. Register at Stewart's Bennett Sports Complex, 912-767-8238, or at a race at 5:30 a.m. Soldiers, family members, retirees and DoD civilians are welcome to run for fun. Rec equipment sale

Used weights, racks, benches, machines, plates, bars, dumbbells and recreation equipment, boats, campers, bikes, trailers will be for sale at Tominac Fitness Center on Saturday. Open to DOD cardholders only from 8-9 a.m., and cardholders and community from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Items must be removed the day of sale. Only cash and credit card payments accepted. Fairways to Freedom

An adaptive golf clinic to encourage individuals with disabilities or challenges due to stroke, spine injury, etc. to play golf, will be at 2 p.m. April 11 on the Taylors Creek Golf Course driving range.

The free Fairways to Freedom introductory clinic will be led by PGA professionals and physical therapists and is open to civilians, veterans and active duty.

Color Run

Be prepared to sparkle passed glitter powder stations in the Extreme Color Run/Walk Glitter Edition 5K starting at 9 a.m. April 16 in the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

The run supports Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and is open to the public.

Register online using WebTrac or visit Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices. Cost is $30 per person until April 14, and $40 on April 15 and at the run.

Strollers and children's bicycles are welcome, but not pets.

Softball league

Companies interested in playing intramural softball should submit a memo to their sports office by April 15. There is no charge. Stewart games are played at Bennett Sports Complex and Hunter games at Squires Sports Complex. Pre-K lottery

Registration continues until April 6 for the free, Georgia-funded CYSS Pre-Kindergarten Program at Fort Stewart CYSS and Hunter CDC. The drawing will be April 7. Cosmic Bingo

Celebrate the end of the tax season with Stewart/Hunter Cosmic Bingo at 10 p.m. April 15. There will be specials, drawings, giveaways, black lights, fluorescent paper and excitement. Ten $100 games, one Fluorescent Dabo, free snacks and specialty drinks. Stewart Bingo is adjacent to Club Stewart and Hunter Bingo is adjacent to Hunter Club. Float trip

Enjoy a Leisure Travel Canoe/Kayak Float Trip at 8 a.m. May 14 on a Georgia waterway.

The $20 cost includes transportation to the start and end points. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and paddlers must be at least 12. Participants should bring a sack lunch.

White water rafting

Register now for an overnight trip to the National White Water Center in North Carolina on July 16. That evening, see live band performances. Food and beverages for sale. Lodging will be at Holiday Inn Express, which will serve breakfast the following morning. Cost is $150 per person, which covers transportation, lodging and bands. A payment plan is available. An option to visit Carowinds at additional cost will be offered.
