Black Heritage Festival this weekend in Savannah

SAVANNAH — Celebrate Grand Festival Day, Saturday, with family-oriented activities and an evening concert at the Savannah Civic Center.

The day kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with Walk Georgia from the Civic Center. Preregistration is encouraged. Call 912-652-7981 or visit www.ugaextension.com/chatham. The walk is followed by a health fair for adults and exercise for kids.

Other youth events include a magic show and story-telling, performances from the Bright Star Children’s Touring Theatre and a crafts village. Class sizes are limited, and reservations for the 1 and 2:30 p.m. sessions are required by emailing bloodp@savannah state.edu.

The annual Youth Talent Extravaganza at 4 p.m.

At 6, the concert opens with the winners of the Youth Entertainment Showcase. The main performance features Con Funk Shun, the classic funk and soul group, and Tony! Toni! Tone!, a chart-topping R&B group with multiple platinum albums.
