Big on-post yard sale is Saturday
Weekly FMWR briefing for April 16-22

The annual Postwide Housing Garage Sales will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday on both Stewart and Hunter.

Everyone, military and civilian, is invited to the sales. Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell. No sales will be conducted at either the parking lots at Club Stewart or the Credit Union at Hunter.

GC’s Golf Scramble

The Garrison Commander’s 4-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. April 27. 

The cost is $35 for soldiers, military retirees, Army civilians and golf club members. It is $45 for civilian guests. Registration deadline is April 25 or when the first 25 four-person teams have signed up.

Dinner and bowling

Bring the family to Stewart Lanes Bowling Center to enjoy dinner and bowling at a special price from 4-7 p.m. April 29. The cost is $30 for a family of five. This month, dinner is spaghetti, side salad and a refillable drink. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Teen high adventure

Registration closes June 7 for an action-filled Teen High Adventure Camp June 17-22 in the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina.

Sponsored by the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Child, Youth and School Services, the trip is open to CYSS-registered youth 13-17.

Youth can learn lifetime outdoor adventure skills through activities including two white-water rafting trips, tubing, zip-lining and hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Family style meals, cabins, and activity fees are included in the camp registration of $150.

Riverboat dinner cruise

Register by May 1 for a Leisure Travel trip back into Savannah’s Civil War history.

On a two-hour cruise along the Savannah River starting at 6 p.m. May 3, you’ll experience a performance, story-telling, dance and music presented by the Gullah Geechee Institute. Enjoy an authentic, Southern, Civil War-era buffet. The cost is $57 for adults and $37 for children.

Mother's Day at library

Children up to the age of 12 can get ready to celebrate Mother’s Day with a special story and craft from 4-5 p.m. May 2 in the children’s room at George P. Hays Library. There is no charge. For more information, call 767-2828. 

 

Teachers Day at Corkan

Corkan Family Fun Center honors teachers with discount rates from 1-7 p.m. on May 3 for teachers and their guests. Laser tag is $3 per game per person. For more information, call 767-4273.    

 

Hunter golf scramble

The Hunter Garrison Commander’s 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. May 4 at Hunter Golf Club. The first 25 four-person teams to register can play. Register your team by May 2.

The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, soldiers, retirees, and Army civilians, and $45 for civilian guests.

Operation Purple Camps

Applications for Operation Purple Camps are available through the National Military Family Association NMFA website.

The camps give military children, ages 7-17, the tools to help deal with the stresses that result from a parent's deployment. Priority will be given to children whose parents are deployed between Sept. 11 and Dec. 12 and who have not been to an Operation Purple Camp.

Group Fitness Classes

Sign up for Group Fitness Classes at Newman Fitness Center.

Classes offered include kickboxing, steps, zumba, spinning, Extreme, abs and water fitness. All are tailored to suit various fitness levels and needs. Child care is offered through CYSS Kids on Site.

Classes cost $3, with the exception of pilates that costs $10 per class or $45 monthly. Ask about a $25 pass for admission to 10 classes.

Quarter Bowlerama

Bowlers, check out the Quarter Bowlerama from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Stewart Lanes. Pay the $5 cover charge and play for 25 cents per game. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

50-bird skeet shoot

A quarterly 50-bird skeet shoot will start at 8 a.m. May 19 at the Hunter Army Airfield Skeet Range. The range is off South Perimeter Road.

Prizes, giveaways and food are included in the $25 entry fee. The cost is $40 for skeet and trap with a total of 100 birds.

Depending on the number of entries, competition is scheduled in novice, intermediate, expert, youth and lady's categories.

A $200 prize will be awarded for a perfect round.

Registration deadline is May 17. Sign up at the range. Registration for the first 15 soldiers who sign up will be paid by Mossy Oaks Gun Club.

Shotguns for those who do not have one will be available on a first-come basis. Available are .12 and .20 gauge and youth .20 gauge.
