Youth can help clean up cemetery
CYSS-registered youth in grades 6-12, who are seeking to complete community service hours or simply interested in volunteering for a worthy endeavor, are invited to help in the clean-up of the Little Creek Cemetery on Fort Stewart Saturday.
Registration is open through Thursday at the Youth Center.
Volunteers will clean headstones, clear debris and assist in the installation of a commemorative marker. The clean-up is part of National Public Lands Day.
Youth will be provided transportation from the Youth Center at 8:45 a.m. and be given a free lunch.

Italian Favorites on Thunder Run menu
Are you hungry for some Italian favorites? They're on the menu Sept. 28 at Club Stewart's Thunder Run restaurant as part of their themed Wednesday evening offerings.
Other foods in the rotation are Latin, Asian and American favorites.
Service is every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Thunder Run. The cost is $9.95 per adult and half-price for children ages 5-10. There is no charge for children 4 and under.

Beat the Golf Pros at Taylors Creek
Do you and your golfing buddies have the skill to beat the pros at Taylors Creek Golf Course? You'll get your chance Saturday.
Here's the format: Two golf pros and a staff member from Taylors Creek will challenge any four-person team in a "scramble" or "captain's choice" format.
All challengers will pay their respective greens fee (golf cart is free), with an additional $20 to be placed into a purse. For every team that beats the pros, the purse will be divided by the number of winners.

Family fishing at Stewart
Pond 30 will be well stocked and the fish are likely to be biting for the Family Fishing Event from 7-10 a.m. on Saturday.
The event is to give families a chance to enjoy time together fishing, as well as in observance of National Hunting and Fishing Day. Permit and state license fees will be waived. A limited number of poles will be available and bait will be provided while supplies last.
Soldiers and their family members are invited. A fish-cleaning station will be set up by DPW Fish and Wildlife.

Youth Sponsorship tour of Skidaway Narrows
Youth will explore the Skidaway Narrows by boat during the Child, Youth and School Services Youth Sponsorship trip on Oct. 1. The free excursion is open to CYSS-registered youth in grades, 5-12.
Participants will travel on the Intracoastal Waterway near Wormsloe Plantation, Isle of Hope and the Skidaway Island State Park as they learn about the history of the area and the local habitat.
The group will depart from Fort Stewart at 9 a.m. and from Hunter at 10.
Registration closes on Sept. 29. Registration is available online or at either the Stewart or Hunter Parent Central Services offices. There is a $5 fee for no-shows and for any cancellations made after Sept. 29.

CG to read at "Tell Me a Story"
Maj. Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams, commander of the Third Infantry Division, will be the guest reader at 3 p.m. Oct. 2 for the Military Child Education Coalition's continuing "Tell Me a Story" series.
The inspiring story, "Listen to the Wind," by Greg Mortenson and Susan L. Roth, will be the featured book.
Tell Me a Story is geared toward children ages 4-12. Each registered family will receive a copy of the featured book. Hands-on activities, snacks and a fun learning experience also will be provided.

Managed deer hunts
Outdoor Recreation will conduct two managed hunts this season in the Delta Range Complex footprint.
The first will be on Oct. 29, and the registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct 17.
Soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart and retirees may apply. There are 50 slots available for each hunt, with 10 per cent offered to retirees.
Applications will be taken at Pass & Permit Offices on Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
There will be morning and afternoon hunts, with lunch provided during the break. Game Check and cleaning station will be provided by Fish and Wildlife. A $10 fee per hunter will be charged and is payable upon selection. Assistance also is provided by DES game wardens.
A lottery will choose the 50 hunters.
The other hunt will be on Dec. 20, with a registration deadline of 5 p.m. Nov 28.

Big Buck Contest sign-up
Register now for a chance to win cash for the largest buck harvested on Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield. Registration will continue until Oct. 21.
Registration costs $30 for active duty, retired and family members, and $40 for civilians.
All deer harvested must be turned in to the Fish & Wildlife Branch, during their operating hours, for scoring.

Wild Hog Competition Sign-up
Registration for the 2011 Wild Hog Competition continues through Dec. 31.
A civilian and an active duty winner will receive a large hog head mount, valued at $500.
Register by Oct. 11 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office. Participants must be valid permit holders. There is a $5 entry fee.
Judging will be based on the number of hogs harvested during unmanaged hunts on Stewart and Hunter. All hogs must be submitted at the Pass & Permit office or at the Fish and Wildlife office on Fort Stewart.
