Cars lined the side of Highway 144 on Thursday as folks flocked to Plantation Lumber and Hardware for its ninth annual open house.
The event was also the May Business After Hours for the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Brianne Yontz said the chamber enjoys partnering with Plantation to help support local businesses.
“It’s important that we showcase our local businesses because it’s important to support our local economy,” she said. “You may be able to save 20 cents on a can of spray paint at Walmart, but that doesn’t support our local businesses.”
Dallas Daniel, owner of Plantation, said the event is not only to showcase the business but to give back.
“Richmond Hill bad been really good to us over the last nine years, so this is our way of giving back to the community,” he said. “The reason we have been so successful is because the community is so supportive of us. So this is a nice little gratis, a thanks for what they do.”
The event has grown every year, Daniel said about 450 people would be served Thursday.
