Recently, I was sitting at a counter in our kitchen and happened to look up at a bouquet of roses I gave my wife for Valentine’s Day.
As I looked at each individual rose, I noticed how the petals were arranged just a certain way, how they had a velvet-like texture and just how beautiful they were. God made these and a whole lot more beautiful plants and flowers on the third day of creation. Genesis 1 tells us that when God finished creating them it pleased him so much that he said “it was good.”
Plants and flowers aren’t the only beautiful things God created and was pleased with. On the sixth day, God created mankind. Psalms 139:14 says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” One of the things we need to understand is that while there are people whom we look at and think have outside beauty, some of the most-beautiful people I have ever met are beautiful on the inside.
I think Disney took it to the extreme to bring about this truth in the movie “Beauty and the Beast.”
What truly makes people beautiful in God’s sight is fulfilling his purpose and allowing his spirit to flow through us to change the world.
