The Exchange Club of Richmond Hill is planning a World War II Remembrance Program on May 22. The guest speaker will be Paul Grassey, a B-24 pilot with the 8th Air Force; having flown 13 combat missions during the war.
The club hopes to have as many local WWII veterans as possible as guests that day.
Those who have parents, grandparents, relatives or acquaintances who fought in WWII can invite them to come, so they can be thanked for their service.
This includes people who worked in defense industries at home during WWII, because without them, U.S. troops and allies would not have had the tools necessary to win the war.
From September 1939 to August 1945, more than 60 million people were killed worldwide, which was 2.5 percent of the world population. Even though 16 million Americans served during WWII, hundreds of the survivors are dying every day.
The Exchange Club of Richmond Hill would like to have an opportunity to recognize and thank these veterans and possibly give them a chance to recount some of their experiences.
A representative from the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum will be keynote speaker for this program. The meeting will be from noon-1 p.m. May 22 from at the Richmond Hill City Center. Veterans are welcome as guests of the Exchange Club; others will be $15 per person.
