Meet and greet
The public is invited to a meet and greet reception with Republican runoff candidate for governor Nathan Deal is set for 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at What’s the Scoop Café, 2591 Hwy. 17 South, Richmond Hill.
Deal is facing Karen Handel for the Republic nomination for governor in the primary runoff election Aug. 10. Early voting for the runoff begins next week.

Meeting moved
The Richmond Hill City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at city hall instead of Tuesday.

Budget workshop
The Pembroke City Council will hold a budget workshop to discuss fiscal 2010-2011 at 6:30 p.m. Monday at city hall.

'Idol' concert
Drew J. Bradley, a contestant for "American Idol," will give a free preview concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. The concert will also feature King's Cross.

Bible study

The Military Wives’ Bible study will return at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 in the fellowship hall.
The fall study is based off the book “Loving Your Military Man” by Bea Fishback.
We’ll be studying how to apply the advice Paul gave in Phil. 4:8 in your marriage. “Focus on whatever is true, honorable, righteous, lovely, of good repute, excellent, and worthy of praise.”

Adult basketball

The North Bryan County Recreation Department will offer an adult basketball league this fall beginning the first of September and running through the middle of November.
The league will play on Monday and Wednesday nights with games beginning at 6:00 or 6:30 p.m.
The cost of the league will be determined at the coaches meeting which will be held at the Hendrix Park gym on Monday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Corinth Baptist
Corinth Baptist Church, 19536 Hwy. 144, will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 8. Worship services begin  at 10:30 a.m., followed by a covered dish dinner in the social hall. After dinner, there will be gospel singing by Allegiance. Guest preacher will be Tim Padgett.
All members, former members, and friends from the community are invited to join the church for this special occasion.

Macedonia Baptist
A back to school cook-out is planned for today, Saturday, July 31, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Everyone is invited for food and fun.

Handy help
Have house/car/computer maintenance questions and don’t know where to turn? On Aug. 7, 10 a.m.- noon,  there will be a handyman workshop at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill. Mothers' group
Join Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPS) at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill. Get together with other moms to figure out the art  and science of mothering together. If you have a child from birth-kindergarten, this group is for you.
An open house will be Aug. 3 in the fellowship hall from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Stop by anytime to see what we are all about, enjoy some snacks,  fellowship and to register your child.
Regular meetings  are the first and third Tuesday of every month at 9:30 a.m.

Gospel sing
Join the youth of Beulah Baptist Church for an exhilarating night of praising God through music and fellowship on July 31 for a supper and gospel sing.
The evening will begin with supper at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 31, with singing to follow at 7 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church, 700 Beulah Church Road, Pembroke.
A donation of $5 is requested, which will go toward mission work.

Kicklighter reunion

The Kicklighter 51st annual reunion will be held in Glennville, Ga. at Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday, July 31, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Hear about Kicklighters who served in the Civil War and about those who came to South Carolina, Georgia and Florida from Germany.
Potluck meal will be served 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will also be homemade ice cream and boiled peanuts. Grills are available to prepare hot dogs and hamburgers. Entertainment is 1-1:40 p.m. Door prizes, fenced play ground for children.

Luncheon
All ladies, daughters and granddaughters are invited to Carey Hilliard’s banquet room at 11111 Abercorn St., for a luncheon at noon today, Wednesday, July 28.

First Baptist Church Richmond Hill’s Military Spouse’s Night Out is Aug. 20, from 6 until 9:30 p.m. It is open to any military, church member or not, deployed or not.
Enjoy an evening out while your children, babies through fifth grade, have a fun filled evening designed just for them. No charge.

Thrift store
St. Elizabeth’s Attic--Thrift and Gift Store is now open and has jewelry, appliances, clothes, furniture, books, children’s toys and games. It is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon.
All proceeds are donated to local charities. The store is located at 16491 Hwy. 144 in Richmond Hill, phone 727-2664.

Art classes
The city Of Pembroke is holding beginning art classes on Thursdays, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center. Carolyn Morgan is teaching the class. The cost is $15 for a six-week session. To sign up please call 653-4484

Art show
Bryan County artists are now being featured at the new Bryan County Administrative Complex. The show is in the main lobby and is accessible to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will run through September.

Church survey
Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, on Hwy. 144 near Publix, is asking parents of childen in kindergarten-fifth grade to complete an online survey. The church wants to hear what you think the community needs. The survey can be found online at www.rhpchurch.com.

Input needed
The Coastal Regional Commission (CRC) is requesting nominations of cultural, historic and natural resources for inclusion in the Regionally Important Resources (RIR) Plan for the Region.  The nomination form is attached.  The closing date for nominations is Aug, 30, 2010.
All nominations received will be reviewed by the CRC staff and the local government where the nominated site is located for recommendation of inclusion as a RIR.

Tennis, anyone?

The Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association (RHATA) adult tennis corporate league will resume on Sunday Aug. 8. This is the group's third successful year in organizing local adult tennis competition. Corporate Tennis is USTA sanctioned and operates under WTT rules.
Matches are played Sunday evenings from August until November. Teams are comprised of men and ladies of all levels, and the league has proven to be a fun way Richmond Hill tennis players socialize.

Youth revival

Youth Back to School Revival at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill, Aug. 12 and 13 at 6:30 p.m. Speaker is David Keen, worship will be led by Ray Shores. Pizza, games and giveaways will be awarded.

Boy Scout Troop 400 is holding a multi-family yard sale Saturday, Aug. 7.
Proceeds benefit next summer’s Philmont trip. If you are interested in selling your own items, the cost is only $20 to rent a space.
