Amy Murphy today announced that she will seek the position of chair for the Bryan County Schools Board of Education in this year's election.

Murphy has represented District 3 on the board since 2012 and ran unopposed for re-election in 2016.

"I am proud of my track record of unequivocally advocating for what is best for our students," she said in a prepared statement. "With six years of experience, I am seeking to serve all of Bryan County in a greater capacity. I pledge to take very seriously the responsibility of leading our school board into the future."

Current Chair Eddie Warren could not immediately be reached for comment. He told the Bryan County News recently that he was unsure if he would run for re-election. Warren was elected to the school board in 2000 and has been chairman since 2006.

Murphy said the growth in the county and its impact on schools would be a primary focus for her as chair.

"As we continue to face the challenges of ongoing growth in Bryan County, I am committed to working with all elected officials, community leaders and stakeholders to ensure our continued success," she said.
