Alayna Widner of Richmond Hill has received a college scholarship from the Coast Guard Foundation.
Widner and other scholarship awardees and 2013 college graduates were recognized last week during the ninth annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard in Washington, D.C.
The nonprofit foundation program supports the higher education goals of enlisted Coast Guard members’ children.
“We are pleased to announce that we had a record number of applicants this year and, more importantly, we proudly said ‘yes’ to every student who applied and met the qualifications,” Foundation President Anne Brengle said. “The Foundation’s commitment to education assistance has grown over the years and is now one of our primary areas of support for Coast Guard members and their families.”
