MACON — Richmond Hill had four of its five qualifiers grab sixth-place finishes in the GHSA Class 6A state dual wrestling championships held last weekend at the Macon Coliseum. This enabled the Wildcats to finish 14th in the 39-team field.
Thomas Crawford (47-14) was the Wildcats’ top performer as he won his first two matches at 220 lbs. by falls to advance to the semifinals where the No. 8 seed lost to Trelain Maddox of Buford in a fall at 3:09.
Colin Dragon (55-8) was seeded fourth at 126 which enabled him to get a first-round bye and advance to the quarterfinals where he defeated Tony Ceriana of South Paulding in a fall at 1:20. In the semis Dragon lost to Drew Gorman of Buford and then was defeated by Anton Blanchard of South Effingham in a consolation semifinal match.
Caleb Gonser, a No. 7 seed at 195, won his opening round match before losing in the quarters to Nigel Wright of Effingham County. He wound up losing in the consolation round semis.
Jackson Crawford was a No. 4 seed at 138 and won his opening match only to lose in the semifinals and then lost in the consolation semis. Trey Boykett, a No. 8 seed, lost his opening round match and that was followed by first round consolation loss.
Bryan County was represented in the state meet by 220-pound sophomore Tarrell Singleton (26-12) who after losing his first-round match, defeated Josh Petty of Fellowship Christian in a first-round consolation match before bowing out in the second round.
Singleton’s performance enabled the Redskins, in only their second season of wrestling, to finish 31st out 40 teams.
