As senior Cullen McCormick heads into her final season playing for the Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats basketball team, she is looking forward to leading her team both on and off the court, and hopes to make it to the playoffs again. 

Others are also recognizing her for her play on the court, as she has earned several preseason honors from the GHSA, via ‘Sandy’s Spiel’ by media producer Kyle Sandy. While McCormick is excited for the season with her team, she is also appreciative and excited to be recognized. 

“Honestly, it means a lot,” McCormick said. “When I first started getting noticed, I was excited and grateful because it showed people were beginning to believe in me. Personally, it feels great to see my hard work paying off, and athletically, it motivates me to keep pushing to reach the next level.”

One of those preseason honors that allowed her to be recognized was being named to the All-Coastal Georgia team. With an area featuring athletes from 1A-6A, McCormick was able to be named to the ‘starting five’ of all of Coastal Georgia, being named as the center of the All-Coastal group. 

“Being named to the All-Coastal Georgia team as the top center is an honor,” McCormick said. “It shows that all the hours I’ve put in are being recognized. To me, there’s no better feeling than seeing dreams start to become reality through basketball.”

Not only was she named to the All-Coastal Georgia team, but McCormick was also named as the sixth best center in the entire state. 

“It’s really exciting to be ranked #6 in the state,” McCormick said. “But I see it as just the beginning of what I want to accomplish this year.”

With all of the accolades that have come her way so far, McCormick still remains grounded and humble, preparing for her season. 

“For me, it’s about staying focused and not getting caught up in the hype,” McCormick said. “I plan to keep working on my craft every day, enjoy the game, and lean on my teammates who have been there through both the highs and lows. The goal is simple: keep improving, one day at a time.”

“It’s definitely tough losing seniors, but I believe in our team,” McCormick continued. “I’m ready to step into a bigger leadership role and set the tone for us this season. I’m excited to see how everyone grows throughout the year, and at the end of the day, I just want to enjoy every moment of my senior season on the court with my teammates.”

The preseason accolades are not the only thing that McCormick has earned as of late. College coaches are now noticing her talents, leading to picking up some offers and heating up her recruitment. 

“I currently have four offers and a couple more visits,” McCormick said. “I am hoping to commit in the early signing season.”
