Richmond Hill’s Brendan Vasher was fifth in the 40th Gate River Run 15K on Saturday in Jacksonville. Vasher, 56, finished the run 1 hour, 3 minute and 59 seconds. More than 14,000 runners finished the race.

Among the results: Jalen Murray and Rakeem Littles finished first and second in the 1600 meters with times of 4:38.29 and 4:38.31, respectively. Murray also took first in the 800 while teammate Matthew Jones was second. Prather L’Marquez tied for first in the 100 with a 10.67.
Redskins’ third region win
Bryan County High School won its third Region 2-AA boys soccer match Friday, downing Jeff Davis 6-5 in a game that went to double overtime and then penalty kicks.
The Redskins (3-4 in region) got two goals from Christian Thomas and a goal each from Devon Hardy, Brian Morgan, Chance Oliver and Nathan Woods in the win. Keeper Sage Lamb had 15 saves for BCHS, which plays at Swainsboro on Tuesday.
Richmond Hill fell to 7-2-1 with a 3-1 loss to Greater Atlanta Christian Saturday in a nonregion soccer match. The Lady Wildcats were outscored 4-0 by GAC to fall to 4-5-1 overall.
Both teams play at Effingham County on Tuesday.
Wildcats break streak
Richmond Hill snapped a two-game losing streak at the hands of Statesboro with a 9-8 win over the host Blue Devils on Friday. Kip Gibson and Rick Mitchell had two hits apiece for the Wildcats (8-6), who played host to Ware County on Wednesday.
Redskins fall to Toombs
Bryan County High School fell 9-0 to Toombs County on Friday to fall to 11-5 overall.
The Redskins play host to Metter today at 4:30 p.m.
Richmond Hill High School’s Montest Bumpers and Trey DeLoach were named first-team All-Region 2-AAAAAA on Tuesday by coaches.
The two seniors were among five Wildcats to earn postseason honors after the team finished 20-7 and won the regular season basketball crown.
Steven Gandy, a senior, and junior Sam James were second team picks for RHHS, while freshman Sheldon Lewis earned honorable mention.
The region’s top player was Glynn Academy’s Durand Green. Brunswick’s Chris Turner was the top coach.
Richmond Hill guard Hannah Yontz was named first-team All-Region 2-AAAAAA on Tuesday by coaches.
Yontz is a junior. Seniors Tiara Gandy and Jazlyn Martin earned second-team honors, while senior Caitlin Elkins was honorable mention.
Brunswick’s Khamiya Blackshear was the 2-AAAAAA Player of the Year. Brunswick coach Maria Mangram was the region’s Coach of the Year.
