On Dec. 11, the Wildcats ventured to Johnson High School in Savannah to take on Johnson and Jenkins County.

The JV Wildcats first took on the Jenkins Warriors. Charles Zhu (135 lbs.), Michael Early (140), Jaquel Phillips (152), David Yim (160), Taiquain Brown (171) and Lance Owens (189) successfully walked off the mat with pins.

The Varsity Wildcats hit the mat next, led by seniors Ben Botelho, Jacob Fox, and Zack Christie. Each match proved the Wildcats’ endurance and talent with wins by Stephen Gray (130), Michael Zhu (140), John Phifer (145), Fox (152), and Botelho (189). Final score was Jenkins 40, Richmond Hill 24.

The final matchup was between both Johnson and Richmond Hill’s varsity wrestlers.

Luck seemed to be lost for the Wildcats until Michael Zhu’s second period pin and John Phifer’s quick pin in the first two minutes of his match.

The last Wildcat to compete, Ben Botelho, also walked away with a fast second period pin. Final score was a close Johnson 39, Richmond Hill 36.
