The Richmond Hill High School wrestling team racked up another victory when they defeated the Savannah Arts at the second-ever home meet for the Mat Cats.

That same night, Jan. 29, Brunswick beat them as part of a three-way meet.

The duel with Brunswick was not without some highlights, as Ryan Tillman got a win via pinfall.

Additional victories against Brunswick were Jake Smith, Michael Zhu and John Phifer.

"We’re doing about what I expected us to do," Coach Rick Bond said. "At times we look great and at times we look inexperienced – which is what we are. I feel we are headed in the right direction but are still a couple years away before this program fully matures. Those who have participated have done quite well this year."

This is the first year of the RHHS varsity program. Wrestling debuted in Richmond Hill last year as a strictly junior varsity program.

Next up, the end of the season area tournament will take place this weekend, Feb. 16 and 17 at South Effingham High School. Eight teams will compete, including region powerhouses Benedictine and South Effingham.
