Recent roundup: Wildcats on roll, Bryan splits, state wrestling

The boys basketball team at Richmond Hill High won its eighth straight game Tuesday, beating South Effingham 63-51.

In all, 11 players scored for the Wildcats, who haven’t lost since Dec. 17. Justin Jeffery and D.J. Lewis led the way with 11 points each, while Sam James added eight points and Trey Deloach chipped in 7.

The win improved RHHS to 17-3 overall. The Wildcats play at defending Class AAAA state champ Liberty County on Saturday. The Panthers are 12-5 overall and will play a Friday night game at Appling County.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 8-12 with a 45-31 win over South Effingham. Individual results were not available.

Bryan Co. splits with Metter

The Bryan County girls basketball team beat Metter 64-37 on Tuesday in a 2-AA matchup. The win gave the Lady Redskins a sweep in the series between the teams and improved BCHS record to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the region.

The Redskins lost a 63-61 heartbreaker to fall to 3-1 overall and 0-9 in the region. Individual results were not available.

Bryan County plays Friday at Toombs County in another 2-AA doubleheader.

Wrestling at state

Richmond Hill High School’s wrestling team lost to eventual state champion Alexander 31-30 in the opening round of the state Class AAAAAA dual wrestling tournament on Jan. 12 in Macon. It is the first time in the program’s history the team advanced to the state dual tournament.
