Recreation football is starting to wind down. Teams are continuously playing throughout North and South Bryan County as we draw closer to the upcoming championship tournaments for each division.
The 10U Cats won 21-6, and this victory clinched the SGYFL division title for them as they hold a perfect 5 - 0 record in league play with one game remaining and hold all tie-breakers versus their opponents.
The offense started out quickly in the game, with Dominic Montalto hitting M.J. Hall for a 20-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. Hall kicked a two-pointer to put the Cats ahead 8-0. After holding the Dawgs on a four and out, the Wildcats then scored on a 30-yard fake reverse to Ronnie Harris. The kick was no good, but that made the score 14-0 with four minutes still to go in the first quarter.
The game was still in doubt in the third quarter as the Dawgs did not give up and drove the length of the field to narrow the score to 14-6 with a quarter left to play. The Wildcats played great defense in the game, but the offensive line came up big in the fourth quarter, allowing the Cats to run the ball up the middle, with Xavier Bryant-Long getting most of the work, and chew up both yards and clock.
Colby Galbreath, Hayden Gorsuch, Will Wallace, Hunter Jiran, D.J. Hall, Seth Candelario, and Joe Davis dominated the line of scrimmage in the fourth quarter,
helping the Wildcats to score the clinching touchdown by Montalto on a
5-yard quarterback keeper to make the final score 21 - 6.
The defense once again proved it's mettle with Davis leading the way with seven total tackles and getting his first interception of the year. Montalto also showed up big with five solo tackles, two assists, and a fumble recovery.
