Bryan County High School’s Lady Redskins are hosting a first round playoff game today at 2 p.m. against Baconton Charter.
Here’s how they got to this point:
The girls were in Dublin on Tuesday, Oct. 5 for the Region 3 championship and started out on a winning note with a 1-0 win over Truetlen County (15-12)  with Tiffany Howard getting the win on the mound with 12 strikeouts. Howard, and teammate, Sierra Cornell led at the plate with each going 2 for 3.  This win advanced them into the championship game against the familiar Savannah Christian Lady Raiders, but the Lady ‘Skins came up short on the scoreboard as Savannah Christian (22-8) took home the region trophy with a 3-1 win in 8 innings after a 1-1 tie into the eighth
“I am very proud of what our girls have accomplished this season. While we may not have achieved our goal of a region championship, we are ready to make a run at the State title. It was very disappointing to take SCPS down to the wire in the championship game  and not come away with a win. Savannah Christian played almost flawless ball and put the ball in play offensively  all throughout the game, but all three of their runs were unearned as we made seven errors with four coming in the eighth inning which did us in,” said Bryan County coach Al Butler.
Taylor Turner pitched the winning game for SCPS and Howard took the loss in spite of striking out nine batters. Against SCPS, Howard led the bats with a 3 for 3 outing with Cornell adding a 2 for 4 performance in the losing effort.
Bryan County will now be the No.2 seed in the State rounds and will host Baconton Charter (20-7) from Region 1A-A in a doubleheader today Pembroke with the first game at  p.m. This will be a best of three series with game three played Thursday if needed.
Howard, by the way, was recently named the Region 3A East player of the year by coaches. It’s her second straight year winning the honor.
Also earning post season recognition were Bridget Bacon, Sierra Cornell, Jerri Hines, Sierra Newman and Jenna Schuman. All were named to the all-region team.

The Bryan County High Redskins(0-6) made their way into Candler County on Oct. 8 to take on the Metter Tigers at Metter High school.  It was homecoming for Metter and they came away with reason to celebrate as they turned a close first half game into a 33-6 rout.
Bryan County got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when quarterback Albert Chavis hit Raekwon Love on a 10 yard pass and went up 6-0, but Metter answered back twice and the halftime scoreboard showed a close contest at 12-6 with the Tigers up.
The only other points scored came in the fourth quarter by Metter (4-2). The Redskins (0-6) will make their final roadtrip game on Friday night when they travel into Savannah to take on the Calvary Cavaliers at 7:30pm.  Claxton will come to Pembroke on Oct. 22 .
