Prep roundup: Kayla Gholar wins state cross country title

In May, Richmond Hill High School’s Kayla Gholar won the girls’ state Class AAAAAA 1,600 meter title.

Gholar, who was a junior in May, added another state title to her collection Friday by winning the girls’ Class AAAAAA cross country championship in Carrollton.

Gholar, now a senior, finished the 3.2 mile race with a time of 18 minutes, 27.69 seconds.

She led the girls’ team to a fifth place finish.

Teammate Savannah Goode, a freshman, placed 18th with a time of 20:32.61.

There were 221 entries in the girls’ race.

In the Class AAAAAA boys’ cross country meet, RHHS finished sixth in the team standings.

Bryson Saunders was the team’s top finisher at 29th with a time of 17:38.97.

Juniors Corey Adamski and Josh Mitchell finished 29th and 31st, respectively, out of a field of 212.

Football

Richmond Hill High School travels to Springfield on Friday night to take on Effingham County in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Wildcats are 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the region and have the 2-AAAAAA title sewn up. The Rebels are 2-7 overall and winless in the region. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m
